Commercial Field Claims Adjuster
Responsibilities
- Investigates claims by inspecting and documenting physical damage to commercial properties in the field.
- Settles claims by determining the coverage, deductible, depreciation and the companies’ obligations under the policy.
- Pre-inspect, Inspect and re-inspect Commercial Properties as assigned to determine the items that need to be corrected by the insured in order to qualify for Coverage.
- Utilizes and Manages experts as needed as a part of the claim investigation to determine coverage and the insurance company’s obligation under the policy of insurance.
- Assigns claims, as needed, to independent adjusters with instructions, managing the claim process, reviewing the Adjuster reports and documentation leading to resolution of the claim in a timely manner.
- Communicates with Insured’s regarding their claim on a regular basis. Explains and educates the insured regarding the claims process and the company’s obligations under the policy.
- Prepares building repair estimates that are accurate and comprehensive.
Qualificiations
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Commercial Adjusting Experience – either inside or field a plus
- Field Claims Experience – Preferably 4 to 6 years either personal lines or commercial lines
- Must be proficient in Outlook, Word and Excel
- Must have estimating skills, preferably in Xactimate
- Must have intermediate knowledge and understanding of Property and Casualty Insurance.
- Must be willing to travel 10% of the time over night – Cat Assignments up to 30 days overnight at a time
- Valid Driver's License required and must be able to pass an MVR screening, Company vehicle will be issued.
- Willing to train the right candidate: must have 3 to 5 years of general inside or field claims experience, building and construction background a plus
- Preference given to candidates in the Gainesville, Jacksonville, Ocala, Orlando and surrounding areas.

Responsibility will be to deliver effective claims support to customers experiencing commercial and personal losses by investigating claims, determining coverage, and making recommendations on legal issues to determine claim outcomes. - Manage a portfolio of assigned claims up to the stated financial level in one or more areas, including Liability/Personal Injury Protection (PIP), Property Auto, Workers Compensation, and Excess of Loss Reinsurance portfolios, to provide efficient, effective, and reliable claims services, and to ensure timely resolution
- Conduct and coordinate loss investigations on all assigned claims to provide accurate facts for disposition, potentially on-site
- Interpret the insurance contract and apply to the exposures presented with each assigned claim
- Evaluate and negotiate the resolution of claims, while mitigating damages, to achieve cost effective claim outcomes
- Negotiate the settlement of assigned claims within authorized amounts or specific file authority to produce appropriate outcomes
- Review reserves on all assigned claim files and recommend changes where necessary to ensure actuarial accuracy
- Identify and refer claims to the appropriate Center of Expertise (COE) in a timely manner to maximize claim outcome
- Take ownership for personal development and career planning, and development of required skills, tools, techniques, and technology to continually add value to the organization
- Provide accurate and timely information to all external and internal stakeholders to address claim status and other inquiries such as questions on fraud, subrogation recovery, reserve adequacy, and underwriting risks
- Contribute to projects and planning surrounding departmental initiatives to meet strategy Objectives Undertake claims resolution activities in accordance with the claim best practices and Department of Insurance (DOI) compliance to support quality claim results
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Insurance, or related field
- Florida All-Lines license 6-20 or 5-20
- At least 1 year of relevant claims experience with demonstrated achievements and progressive responsibilities

- Experience in Commercial Property, Commercial Auto, and General liability preferred
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to multi-task
- Demonstrated knowledge of claims handling processes, systems, and regulatory requirements
